Our Team
David Teplica MD MFA, Founding CEO and CMO
Company founder David Teplica serves on the clinical faculty at the University of Chicago. As a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Teplica has gained an international reputation for 3-dimensional reconfiguration of the body, whether for cancer, HIV, trauma, birth defects, or aesthetic concerns. During surgical residency, he also received the Trustee’s Scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Photography.
Over the last 33 years, Teplica developed highly standardized body imaging and mapping techniques. He has garnered world attention for ground-breaking research using identical twins to answer many questions about the genetics of skin features and body form. His team has shown that anatomy is either inherited directly from one’s parents or is received in mirrored fashion, leading to a theory of “Anatomic Predetermination”. Once mirroring is accounted for, nearly all human surface anatomy appears to be genetically and 3-dimensionally encoded, including nearly all skin lesions. Importantly, even locations of several types of skin cancers appear to be inherited from parents, making it possible to predict cancer locations within families.
Dr. Teplica’s research has led to the conclusion that highly standardized 3D imaging is urgently needed to capture and analyze anatomy. Importantly, the technology can be used to detect minute skin surface changes for the earliest possible cancer detection AND to alert clinicians of the likely locations where some skin and breast cancers may form over time. Teplica’s work is published in top medical journals and his photographs are exhibited and collected by museums worldwide.
